In addition to our landscaping additions, we also did a little work on our house, including:
  • painting the front porch and front door
  • drilling a new well
  • replacing most of the interior natural gas lines plus gassifying the fire place in the living room
  • extending electrical service to near the arbor by the pond

Finally, in terms of home improvement, on April 1 (bad choice!), we began the stormy voyage that was the building of a storage barn in our back yard. We named it the Barn From Hell because it took 9 months to complete, and just about everything that could go wrong, did!

Dot has a success story this year: An orchid hybrid she made back in 1999, when she began working at Porter's Orchids, flowered this Summer. The photo shows some of the flowers. A bonus: they are fragrant! Now she is in the process of giving the hybrid a name, and registering it with the Royal Horticultural Society in Great Britian.
